Health and wellness program

About

In 2024, The Glimmerglass Festival unveiled an unprecedented partnership with Glimmerglass Medical & Wellness, LLC., a local provider of institutional health and wellness programming and concierge primary care services. This collaboration pioneers a unique, comprehensive health and wellness program tailored for opera and theater professionals. Led by Dr. Jeffrey Bailey, DNP/FNP-BC, a seasoned healthcare provider and performing arts professional, the program is a model for the opera and theater industry, addressing the healthcare disparities and lack of access to health insurance that industry professionals with atypical schedules and inconsistent employment often face.

Key features include an onsite infirmary staffed by Glimmerglass Medical & Wellness practitioners, fitness classes, and educational seminars and weekly newsletters covering various wellness topics will be provided to all company members.

The goals of the Wellness Program include:

  • Providing continuity of care to a group of people with limited access to consistent and affordable healthcare,

  • Meeting the needs of individuals where they are rather than imposing healthcare goals, and providing resources to empower people to make healthy choices,

  • Reducing absenteeism and productivity loss due to lack of access to appropriate medical care,

  • Reducing emergency room visits, thereby reducing stress on the local healthcare system, and

  • Supporting the local economy with partnerships with local practitioners and businesses.

Generously sponsored by Beth and Gary Glynn, this program ensures low to no-cost access to healthcare support for all Glimmerglass professionals.

Dr. Alexis MacDonald, MD

Critical Care Physician, Glimmerglass Medical & Wellness, LLC., Glimmerglass Alum (2000)

Dr. Alexis MacDonald is a double board-certified critical care physician who is passionate about collaboration and regionalizing critical care in rural-underserved communities. Originally from Pierstown, New York (not far from here) Dr. MacDonald studied health care delivery at Arizona State University and the Geisinger Medical Center. Her strengths support the strategic vision to promote evidence-based high-value care in all areas of acute care, including but not limited to the ICU. Dr. Macdonald’s connection to The Glimmerglass Festival is not restricted to her role as a yearly patron of the opera season. In 2000, she also worked as a Housing and Transportation Intern during that year’s summer Festival season. Her passion for stage management and theater in high school and college led her to consider pursuing a professional stage management career. Prior to medical school, her wide array of skillsets led her to a 9-year career in orthopedic device sales which focused on limb lengthening and deformity correction surgery all over the world. We are very excited to include Dr. Macdonald in the care team this year, and the Festival is thrilled to have their Glim Glam family member return home!
